Great Ad!

I have been spending my Christmas break with Netflix and Hulu on my computer screen almost everyday! I think I'm making up for lost time.. and future lost down time. But anyway... as I was watching Mansfield Park on Hulu (which I highly recommend)... This delightful ad popped up and I couldn't keep it to myself! It's just too wonderful!

I plan on enjoying my next 2 weeks (minus 3 days for Wisdom Teeth Removal.. blah)!!!

Trips!

November went by so fast, and so much happened! I feel like I didn't have so much time to write. So I'm going to fill you in on my very favorite parts of the month: St George and Powell!! Seeing Miss Alexa Kienlen in St George was the first trip I took and it was so much fun!

Darcee, Chelsea, and I headed south, and got to St George late that night. We called Lex as soon as we piled at the car, and we heard her and ran to meet her! It was so fun to finally reunite after so many months apart! Hugging and screaming ensued. We then were bushed so we went back to Darcee's wonderful aunt's house and crashed!!




The next day we decided to hit up the borders! It was the land of sun and warmth: ARIZONA! Here we are enjoying the warm weather and total lack of coats.. IN NOVEMBER! WOOHOO!




We realized how close we were to Nevada and decided to just keep on going.. Why not right?
So we made a quick stop in Mesquite there was no gambling involved! We almost went to Vegas, but we were too tired --- especially after my loving sister made a frantic phone call telling me I had business being 18 in Vegas. She's such a dear!

Over all the trip was a total blast. We didn't do much else! Just some hiking (in the dark scary...). But it was so worth it to go down there! I loved being with my Powell friends again.. just in St George this time!

My next favorite part of November was GOING HOME!

Wyoming was cold, but very fun! I didn't do anything exciting back home either, but just being there again was so much fun! I got to see my family, and have a completely stress free weekend!

ST GEORGE HERE I COME!!!

I've got a new secret love...

His name is Harold and we got perfectly together. He makes me happy. He makes me focus. He always supports me in my school work. He even encourages everyone around me to be quiet so I can focus... not many people would go that effort you know? And I think I've spent more time with him than any other person on campus, except Laura.

Halloweeen/Called to Serve

Halloween!

We had a door decorating contest on my hall. Laura and I officially won THE CUTEST DOOR award! It's supposed to be a scary Frankenstein, but apparently it's cute! Whatever it was, it served as a super great distraction from a somewhat stressful studious Saturday!

Also ------- This week is MISSIONARY WEEK at BYU for all freshmen in On-Campus housing! I have been called to the Kentucky Louisville Mission! I'm supposed to be living the mission rules this week! I'm really excited, but I don't how well that will go... Its a big thing to be a missionary AND a student!

This week I will be (TRYING):

• waking up at 6:30
• going to bed at 10:30
• Having companionship scripture study
• attending zone meetings
• wearing missionary attire
• keep mission standards with opposite gender (it actually says that!)
  
• Refraining from Facebook, TV, computer games, and "non-church" music

Swine Flu

AHHH!!!

The dreaded H1N1 Virus has officially reached BYU! I know of two people (roommates actually) that have Swine Flu IN HINCKLEY HALL! Thank goodness they live down a floor! Apparently they are wearing face-masks, but they're also still going about business as usual (accept for going to classes)! So beware of Hinckley 1100 Hall.. it's infected!

It's kind of funny though, because now anytime gets a cold everyone runs! I had a sleepover in my room two nights ago, because someone's roommate had a slight cold. Better safe than sorry I guess .... so everyone remember to wash your hands!

OFFCIAL EMPLOYEE!

My Official Office!

I have been working in Room 108 of the Richard's Building since the beginning of school! My tasks usually consist of:

Doing homework (lots of downtime)

Answering phones

Signing for packages, and

Printing large posters

I put doing homework at the top of the list, because in reality that is my most prevalent task. Its really a great job to have at college! I love it so much! The people I work with are all very nice and there have been no MAJOR (I was an hour late to work once because I was napping, but I consider that very minor, since my boss wasn't too terribly upset) problems yet.

So while I have been accepted, and I have been getting into the swing of things, I have still been distinguished as the NEW employee. I was forced to go around to find a punch in clock while every other employee got to sign in through a computer in the office. I also had to make my own name tag out of a Post-It note. I was also not included on the Health and Human Performance Services directory wall.

However, this week marks my first week of REAL employment! I have been given permission and access to on-line sign-in. I have received my name plate, and I'm on the wall! So this week I've been officially celebrating my first days of OFFICIAL employment!!!

SCARY STORY

On Tuesday I was at work and got a text from my friend Holly that said. Laura fainted. I asked as many questions as possible, but all I figured out was that she had fainted in the SWKT. There were EMTs that happened to be passing by that were able to help her. Holly had to leave to class so that's all we knew. Laura wasn't answering her phone. So I walked home, and found her in bed with all the lights out. I took my studying outside, and waited for her to get up. At about 6 she got up and said she needed to go to the bathroom. I took her inside... she got threw up. I didn't know what to do at all. So I just sort of hovered. I finally had the inspiration to ask she needed anything like a blessing or anything like that. She told me that yes she did want a blessing and to text her friend. I got right on it!

I texted said friend and he left class and came over at about 6:30. She didn't think she wanted to do stairs. So I went to three different RA rooms until finally someone was at least able to help me out and get the linen closet open. On the way down, we stopped in the bathroom. This time instead of standing around like a loser, I at least held her up while she was being sick. We took Laura downstairs-- completely deathly pale. Really freaky! She got the blessing and we took her right back upstairs, and everything seemed okay.

So Holly and I went to grab a fast dinner, leaving Laura with the instruction that she was supposed to call us if she needed anything. We got a text a little into dinner that said "Hey. Can you come back?"

We picked up our trays and literally ran to the room (I had my backpack on...). We found out that she fainted again... The EMTs said if anything persisted we were to call them again. I had no idea what to do!! So Holly took care of everything! Like everything, and she stayed calm and asked good questions. She was like a super good life-saver.

The EMTs showed up. They were so helpful, except for the fact that they don't deal with this kind of thing a lot I think. If Laura was bleeding or had a broken arm I'm sure they could have helped in a heart beat... but... she was just fainting and throwing up. They took her vitals again... but they had know idea what to do. They did say however that fainting for no apparent reason is not good so we should go to the hospital.

Which we did. One of the girls on our floor was recruited and she went to get her car. ... small side story.. this week is safety week so we had a fire-drill planned... So as Laura is getting all packed up and ready to go.. The fire-alarm goes off. And she starts getting sick again. So just as we're leaving the shut the fire-alarm off..

We took Laura to the ER. They got her in soonish.. and we called the Bishop... It was about 8:15 when we called and he lives pretty far away so we got Laura back into a room and the Bishop was there by 9:30. Sister Miner and Bishop Miner are GREAT people. They just love us so much and I'm pretty sure that there is absolutely now way they even knew who I was, but they showed up and loved us. It was so great!

They decided that Laura had the stomach flu and she was fainting because it was lowering her blood-pressure... although she started getting sick AFTER she fainted.. but the Dr. seemed like he knew what he was talking about? They put in an IV to get her blood pressure up and put 2 bags into her arm before they let her go home. They Bishop then drove us home at around 12. It was a super stressful night! I missed home so much, because stuff like this never happens at home.. at least not with me dealing with it. When Sister Miner hugged me when she showed up I almost started crying! She just hugs like a mom! I missed that too!

So-- that was my night last night! Pretty stressful, but we're all so glad that Laura is doing so much better already! (Sorry for the hecka long post!)

p.s. My awesome sister Dawn's birthday is today!!! I'm also grateful for her and the amazing example she has always been! I can't wait to (hopefully) party it up on Friday and see her! HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAWN! <3

BYU: Month One!

I've been at BYU for almost a month! And so much has happened!

My very first niece (and I have no nephews) was born! When I got the text, I stayed in the lobby of the hospital for about 3 hours until I finally got to go up and see my sister and her baby! Aubrey is still so cute! She cries and cries and even that is cute!

8lbs. 18 in.

I've hiked the Y! And I discovered I was in way worse shape than I thought I was. It was terrible, and I can't even blame it on the elevation, because I'm lower here than I was at home. tear. I made the group I was with stop at every turn. Thankfully they didn't mind and we made it to the top in 35 minutes!

The same night I hike the Y, I lost my keys and had to crash at my friends house. I put up a poster at 2 in the a.m. on the bulletin board of the building I lost my keys in front of. It had a hand-drawn picture of my key chain, a description of the keys, and my phone number! I got a call at 8:45 the next morning -- MY KEYS WERE FOUND!

I also went to my first BYU football game. It was sad, and disappointing, yes. BUT I never sat down (except for time-outs and half-time), because I'm totally TRUE BLUE! I just hope they get better...

I've also had many of those classic 'I'm at BYU' moments. The girls on my hall decided to walk to the temple. So a group of 12 or 15 headed off on the 20 minute walk! When we got there, we decided we couldn't just walk. So we walked around back and had a mini-devotional... only at BYU! <3
